Pros & Cons

Pros: Firewire, Dual Gigabit LAN, Hardware RAID

Cons: SATA ports 1-4 are on the same interrupt as the USB controller. Intermittent locking problems will occur during startup if a USB device and a hard drive are plugged in. Instead, ports 5 and 6 can be used, but these are PATA.

User Impressions

Observations:

No formal testing has been done on this box as a core/hybrid, but the hardware itself has been running solid for over a year now. The case used is a MAJOR consideration with this board. I have placed it in a 4U rack mount case from Frys and run into multiple issues squeezing in my hardware. SATA ports and Power Supply block connectors on the front of the board have given me issues when trying to place any additional drives in the case (other than the single drive over the DVD ROM). I've also run out of PCI card slots, loosing 1 too a PCI Express card I will never use. Somewhat off topic: the 600 watt power supply I purchased for this board does not have a SATA plug for all the hard drives I wish to put in for my raid. Make sure you consider power supply connectors (or adapter) with your purchase.
